"Hi I'm Liz and I've been a member of the Postgrad Society for the past two years, and President since May this year.  I am currently a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Microbiology on a two year contract that has recently been extended until next June.  I have a PhD in Toxicology and an MSc in Clinical Biochemistry so am well versed in what it is to be a postgrad!

I believe the Postgrad Society is about meeting new peoople in a similar situation in a friendly environment, and enjoying new activities together at a subsidised fee that allows everyone to take part.  The Union provides us with funds based on proposed events we budget for each year, so bring the ideas with you and we can make them happen.  We are always on the lookout for new committee members who are enthusiastic and want to make the most of what we have to offer, so see you at an event soon."

Treasurer:  Fiona Watt

Hi,

I'm Fiona, I been involved with the PG society over the last couple of years and became Treasurer in May 2009. My "day-job" is working in BBS as the Research, Consultancy & Executive Development Manager. It's a long title but basically I work in supporting our PhD students, helping academics with their research, managing the research centres of excellence and our CPD/Executive Education teams. The best bit of my job is getting to know our PhD students from all parts of the world and helping them through their PhD journey. We have a close-knit PhD community and I understand the ups & downs of being a postgraduate research student.

I'm also a part-time student myself on the MSc Management, so appreciate what it's like to juggle work and study, whilst still making time for socialising! The Postgrad Society has been a great way to meet other like-minded people from across the whole of UWE and get me to try new activities - like the Go-Karting in March!

Hi everyone,

I am Eleimon and have been a member of the Postgrad Society for over 3 years now. I have acted as the Society's President for 2 years and have been involved with the Society since its inception.

I am currently writing up my PhD thesis in credit ratings while holding down a full-time lecturing post at the university, but I always try to find some time for the Postgrad Society, which has been for me personally a great way to get to know new people at UWE.

The Society aims to help postgraduate, mature undergraduate, home as well as overseas students climatise to UWE and also meet like-minded people, whilst offering the best that Bristol and the surrounding area have to offer. We organise a series of regular events and a number of fun events, to which we would like to welcome all of you!
